2.1 Study Tour on Agricultural Engineering and Food Processing Technologies

October 9-18, 2000

Programme:

The objective of the Study Tour was to provide participants from different developing countries with the topical information in the following areas:
  • Czech Agricultural Machinery
  • Food Processes Machines for Traditional and Tropical and Subtropical Crop-Plants
  • Methyl Bromide Effect to the Life Environment from the Agricultural Engineering Viewpoint
  • Maintenance of Farm Tractors in the Tropical and Subtropical Conditions
  • Data Processing and Computer Utilization in Farm Power and Agricultural Machines Exploitation
  • Development and utilization of computer programmes in the field of: - optimal tractors' type and utilization for certain operations - fuel consumption for different types of field operations, types of soil resistance, moisture content etc. - irrigation control (in combination with frost protection) - maintenance and repair
  • Agricultural Engineering in Post-harvest and Storage Technology
  • Agro-Industry and Environmental decision support systems for air/water pollution control and monitoring - Non-Conventional Energies in Agriculture - "biofuels" - Agriculture and Development
  • The experience and knowledge of the lecturer staff of the Czech Agricultural University and know-how of preselected industrial companies dealing in area of special equipment for agricultural and food production was used for preparing this Study Tour.

Industrial Plants Excursion:

  • Visit to greenhouses
  • Visit to agricultural farm Agricultural & Marketing Co-operative Ltd. Zálší
  • Visit to waste water treatment plant in Prague
  • Visit to AGROSTROJ PelhÍimov - development, production and sale of agricultural machines

Participants presentations were held on the first day of the Study Tour in order to homogenize the group and to verify all need and interests. During further days special lectures were delivered for the participants to be more familiar with contemporary situation in the area of agricultural engineering and food processing in the Czech Republic. The discussions with management of enterprises took the part of all technical visits. They provided the participants with a wide practical knowledge on the subject of concern.

A sightseeing of Prague and a visit of spa Karlovy Vary were organized for participants to give them possibility to get more familiar with the cultural background of the Czech history.
  

Participants:

The Study Tour was attended by 6 participants from 5 countries (Belarus, Bulgaria, Guatemala, Lithuania and Zambia). The professional structure of participants: mainly food quality control experts and managers. The average age of the participants was 38 years.
