|
November 20 - 29, 2000 |
|
Programme: |
The Study Tour enabled the participants to be acquainted with the Czech
energy policies, energy conservation measures and technologies which
contribute to cleaner environment and sustainable development, as well
as with the UNIDO approach towards energy efficiency. Industrial visits
and mutual exchange of experience were an integral part of the subject
Study Tour programme. Technical visits to the following companies/plants
were organized:
- Turbine plant of ŠKODA Energo, Pilsen - traditional turbine
manufacturer dealing also with turbine modernization/upgrading
projects;
- Pilsen heating plant;
- ŠKODA heavy engineering plant, Pilsen to introduce the technology
of biomass utilization for electrical energy production;
- Municipality Wastes Incinerator at Liberec;
- CKD Energo Praha - Czech traditional manufacturer of power
equipment;
- Power plant Melník, a part of the Czech Power Company CEZ - Czech
major energy supplier and distributor.
The Study Tour was organized as a meeting of experts with lectures on
theoretical, technical and practical problems, industrial visits and
with discussions devoted to the topics of the Study Tour. The Study Tour
lectures and all discussions were conducted in English, with exception
of two lectures which were conducted in Czech language only with their
translation into English because of the fact that two lecturers had
fallen ill at the beginning of Study Tour implementation and in a very
short time it was not possible to find other English speaking lecturers
who could replace them and be able to lecture on given topics. The
inquiries of the participants were answered immediately during lectures.
Many discussions were devoted to the exchange of experience and
know-how. Good professional level enabled participants to take an active
part in the discussions with lecturers.
During a free day (on Sunday) a sightseeing of Prague was organized
for the Study Tour participants to give them a possibility to be more
acquainted with the cultural and historical background of the country
which the majority of them visited for the first time.
