1.2 Workshop on Environmental Engineering in Agriculture and Food Processes Technologies

Programme:

The objective of the Workshop was to provide participants from different developing countries with the topical information in the following areas:
  • Bioethanol for agricultural crops and lignocellulosic materials as an additive to fuels
  • Microbial biofilms employment/occurrence in food industry
  • Food technology manufacturing centre
  • Vacuum cooling - the challenge to meet the food safety requirement
  • Lactic acid bacteria and their functional properties
  • The aspects of new methods of quality evaluation and control in the technology of sugar, chocolate and sugar confectionery
  • Research activities of the Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology
  • Implementation of HACCP in food processing
  • BSE - recent problem in food production
  • Principe of `Active PackagingA in food processing
  • Food safety issues
  • HACCP practices in food industry relations to chemical contaminants
  • Toxic metals in food supply
  • Fundamental principle of microbiology
  • Methodical approaches to estimation of the main food pathogenes
  • Fundamentals of immunochemistry
  • Genetically modified foods and their role in the next century
  • Introductory lecture in the field of Czech environmental engineering
  • Methyl bromide effect to the life environment for agricultural engineering viewpoint
  • Food processes machines for traditional and tropical and subtropical crop-plants
  • Environmental engineering in post-harvest and storage technology
  • Agricultural engineering in technology agriculture management
  • Waste management (from the environmental engineering viewpoint)
  • Importance of appropriates food packaging in the tropics and subtropics
  • Ecologically sustainable industrial development (ESID) and cleaner protection
  • Non-conventional energies in agriculture

The experience and knowledge of the lecturer staff of the Institute of Chemical Technology and the Czech Agriculture University and also know-how of pre-selected industrial companies dealing in the area agriculture and food production was used for preparing this Workshop.

  • Department laboratories in Prague Institute of Chemical Technology
  • Biotechnology Laboratory of the Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy Sciences
  • Greenhouses of the Czech Agriculture University 

Industrial Plants Excursions:

  • Sugar factory Prague-Modrany
  • CEREA, Dobrenice - stocking of seed for sowing
  • Brewery Pernstejn, Pardubice
  • Agricultural advanced farm Cejkovice - fruit and vegetable processing
  • Waste water treatment plant

Participants:

The Workshop was attended by 13 participants from 12 developing/transition countries (Belarus, Croatia, Estonia, India, Lebanon, Lithuania, Macedonia, P.R. China, Romania, Tanzania, Tunisia and Turkey).
