2.2 Study Tour on Local Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development

Programme:

The aim of the Study Tour was to acquaint the Study Tour participants primarily with the following topics:

  • policy framework in sustainable development especially national strategy for sustainable development (including the process of preparation, modules, outcomes, its link with other processes, e.g. EU accession, etc.,
  • institutional framework of sustainable development,
  • local sustainable development activities especially Local Agenda 21

and to deliver them information and experience from the area of sustainable development and Local Agenda 21 and their implementation in the Czech Republic combining different views (government, NGOs, academia).

The Study Tour programme included lectures and discussions on the following subjects:

  1. Sustainable Development Strategy in Czech Republic;
  2. Reform of Public Administration;
  3. Sustainable Development in Czech Republic – creation of conditions;
  4. Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control;
  5. Healthy Cities Project (National Network of Healthy Cities of the Czech Republic);
  6. Presentation of work of environmental NGOs using as an example work of NGO ”Green Circle”;
  7. Complex programme of sustainable development in a region implemented on LA 21 principles (”Koniklec Agency”).

As a part of Study Tour programme the following visits were organized:

  • visit to the Czech Environmental Institute, Environmental education and public participation department where the participants were informed about the institute activities in the field of Local Agenda 21 and sustainable development,
  • visit to Kladno town with the aim to acquire information a experience from the development of this town which went through a difficult period during the transformation process and where the Local Agenda 21 activities are successfully implemented. Therefore such a visit was included into the programme and the participants met the representatives of Municipal Authorities of Kladno town, the Labor Office and AVE Training Center.

Participants:

The Study Tour was attended by 11 participants from Uzbekistan - representatives of public administration, university, NGO and project staff of the Environment Programme of UNDP and Government of Uzbekistan.
