In cooperation with the Czech Arabic Society and in the framework of
long-term successful cooperation with the Arab Iron and Steel Union
(AISU) including AISU co-financing.
The objective of the programme was to make
participants acquainted with results of the Czech Iron and Steel sector
achieved in the multiple fields of restructuring and privatization of
iron and steel industries, in particular with the areas heavily impacted
by this process such as modernization, strategic planning and
competitiveness, outsourcing, research and development, quality
management, innovation, environment management, marketing and customer
relations control, human resource development, training and retraining
(requalification centers for redundant workers and other staff due to
the restructuring). The programme included both lecturers, discussions,
round tables and industrial visits as well as possible technical
assistance projects’ preparation and design, including preparation of
joint ventures between Czech and Arab companies. The Study Tour was
focused towards senior representatives of AISU member companies
responsible for the above various aspects of restructuring.
Participants were met by Czech leading experts from
industries, institutions and the academia, both end users, consultants
and equipment suppliers. Participants learned step by step how to make
restructuring of the sector more effective, efficient and competitive,
optimizing investments, considering also into retraining activities and
redundant workforce reemployment.
The Study Tour programme included lectures and
discussions with the following topics:
- Introductory lecture to the Study Tour background;
- Restructuring and privatization of metallurgy industry in the
Czech Republic;
- Current production technologies in Czech metallurgy industry;
- Quality management, current trends and requirements for quality
control in metallurgy;
- Energy efficiency in metallurgy from environmental point of view;
- Marketing, customer relationship management;
- Certification, technical standards, quality management in steel
works ;
- Feasibility studies as a tool for joint ventures.
